Walking in Lanzarote

Puerto Del Carmen to Arrecife

We love exploring beautiful streets of Puerto Del Carmen, however if you prefer a longer walk with magnicifiant sea views and would like to visit few resorts in one day we would recommend the walk from Puerto del Carmen to the capital of the Island Arrecife. We met with our friends at around 10.00am one of the mornings during our September holiday. Our walk began near the Club Del Carmen Apartments. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, it’s important to start your walk quite early as it could get too hot later in the day, make sure you have plenty of water with you and wear comfortable shoes.

At the end of the strip you will see the Seaside Los Jameos Playa Hotel, which is one of the luxury Lanzarote 4 star Hotels.

Matagorda is the next resort that you will be passing by, it is a lot quieter than Puerto del Carmen but very popular for families with nice beach and lovely restaurants right at the seafront.

Matagorda is situated next to the airport so during our walk we could watch the planes landing on the island.

We stopped at the famous Lanzarote Airport viewpoint to watch the planes for a while, it was amazing to see them so near above our heads.

After a short break we continued our walk, it’s a very popular activity as we met a lot of people walking, cycling and enjoying the gorgeous weather.

The next resort is Playa Honda, with fab sandy beaches. It was pretty quiet in September but had a lovely relaxing atmosphere, we have seen some lovely villas situated right at the seafront.

At that stage we were walking for more than hour and a half, it was a pleasant walk so did not feel any tiredness at all, just kept drinking plenty of water.

We were getting closer and closer to our final destination Arrecife and still enjoying the morning walk.

At around 12.30pm after 2 hours and 20 minutes we were at the beautiful urban beach Playa de Reducto in the capital of island. It’s the most popular beach in Arrecife with white golden sands and calm waters.

We walked towards the main shopping streets of Arrecife and entered one of the side streets, our friends suggested to stop for lunch in one of the traditional tapas bars.

We ordered couple of Spanish baguettes and a jug of sangria ofcourse which was so refreshing.

Red Wine Sangria with lemon, lime, apple, and orange served in a glass.

After resting for a while we decided to take a taxi back to Puerto Del Carmen, which costed us only €12 for 4 people. You can also take a bus which costs approx. €2.5 and takes about 40 minutes.

To summarise our lovely day

  • Walked for nearly 15 km in 2 hours and 20 minutes
  • Visited 4 resorts: Puerto Del Carmen, Matagorda, Playa Honda, Arrecife
  • Tested some delicious Spanish food and refreshing sangria

It’s a great way to keep fit during your holidays.
